3.       After the grand opening of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in DC, I learned some interesting tidbits about the funding of the museum. I learned that former President George W. Bush actually signed the bill during his presidency providing federal funds for the creation of this space. 4.       New China House restaurant in PA was given 18 citations after getting caught with deer brains, deer heads and other unidentifiable animal parts in the restaurant. The owners claim they had the items to make soup for themselves and NOT to sell to their customers…..but we all know that sounds like bullshit. That’s NEVER happened before. Ever. 10.   Sgt. Kizzie Adonis was charged with failure to supervise for her role in the 2014 death of Eric Gardner. I’m confused and a little disturbed by this. She’s been charged because she heard Eric Gardner say he couldn’t breathe….but the man who actually restricted Eric’s breathing, killed him AND also heard him say he couldn’t breathe walked away scott free. 11. Baltimore area girls were part of the 400 players initially selected as nominees for the 2016 McDonald’s All-American Basketball Game. Only 2 girls from the Baltimore area have EVER been selected for this game in it’s entire 14 year history! So this is HUGE! The girls are Tyanna Custis, Shawnkia McCallum and Tyeisha Smith from St. Frances; Kennedi Colclough from Arundel; Stephanie Jones from Aberdeen; Andrea Robinson from McDonogh  and Khepera Stokes from Poly. 12.       Olympian sprinter Tyson Gay’s 15 year daughter was shot and killed when a gun fight erupted between 2 cars in a restaurant parking lot and she got hit with a stray bullet. 4 men were arrested and charged with the murder. #1000ThingsAbout2016
 
13. 2 Waffle House employees were fired in Arkansas after they were caught on surveillance camera dipping one of their hair into a pot of boiling water while the other one assisted with a towel. 18.       Disturbing news emerged in regards to the Tamir Rice Grand Jury proceedings. It was revealed that the Grand Jury determined that Tamir’s murder was justified and as a result they did not even vote on whether to charge the police officer involved. When the Grand Jury announcement was initially made, it was worded that the Grand Jury declined to indict the officer. Turns out the truth is they never even voted on it. SMH #1000ThingsAbout2016
 
19.      The body of a 73 year old Detroit man was found covered by clothes in a dumpster located right behind the nursing home that he lived in. Construction workers found him that morning. The nursing home didn't report him as "serious missing" until later that evening. Autopsy shows he died of natural causes. Weird story. 31.   An Uber driver in Kalamzoo, MI went on a random shooting rampage killing 6 people and critically injuring 2. He drove from place to place….killing random people…and in between the murders, he picked up atleast 3 Uber fares. Those passengers were not injured. 33. Stephanie Lampkin launched a really cool app this year that works as a job matching tool aimed at removing discrimination. The only information viewable by the potential employer is the qualifications. Names that would indicate an applicant’s name, race or gender are hidden. 35.      A 7 year old girl in Pennsylvania revealed to her bus driver that she didn’t want to go home because she hadn’t been able to wake her parents up in 2 days and she was scared because they were changing colors. The bus driver alerted police who found that the parents had both died from a drug overdose. 41.      3 men were stranded on a remote island in the Pacific after their boat capsized. They had to swim 2 miles at night to reach the island. 53.     A Bronx man was arrested for beating a man to death…after the man attempted to rape his wife. Mamadou Diallo and his wife returned home one evening….the wife went up to the apartment while Mr. Diallo stayed outside. While the wife was going to the apartment, a man jumped out, hit her in the head with a chair and started ripping her clothes off. The woman fought him and managed to get away from him…at which point she called her husband. The husband came upstairs as the attacker was attempting to flee…and proceeded to beat him to death. Prosecutors charged him because they say that the threat was over when the husband attacked. I don’t agree with that. I don’t think the man should’ve been charged. He did the right thing. 64.   I swear I felt a sense of déjà vu when a white neighborhood watchman shot and killed an unarmed black guy for walking in a neighborhood. No his name wasn’t Trayvon Martin. It was Kouren-Rodney Bernard Thomas. And the year is 2016. Smh.  #1000ThingsAbout2016

65.    Ex-NFL star Darren Sharpner was sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to intentionally putting drugs in women’s drinks and having sex with them once they were unconscious. They are atleast 16 victims. Smh. Sick. #1000ThingsAbout2016

73.  China lost control of its Tiangong 1 space station that orbits Earth and the object is expected to enter the Earth’s atmosphere at some point in 2017 and some parts will crash and cause damage, but the damages are not expected to be widespread. 83.    Ben Carson got yet another side-eye this year after refusing a position in Trump’s cabinet due to lack of government and political experience. Like what?!?!? You’re not qualified to be in the administration but you ran for PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. And THEN he turns around accepts a position anyway!! Seriously nobody should be able to see straight as a result of all the side-eyes given to this man. SMH. He needs to just stfu unless he has a scalpel in his hand. 88.    The city of LA turned old motels and hospitals into 500 apartments for homeless vets. The vets will use vouchers from the Department of Veteran Affairs to pay their rent. The vouchers won’t expire for 15 years and allows landlords to also make a profit at no expense to the vets. The city will use financing from Proposition 41, which allocated $600 million in bond money for housing the poor and homeless vets. Supportive services, such as counseling, are also included.  I think this is a fantastic idea. And with all the vacant in Baltimore, this could definitely be implemented. #1000ThingsAbout2016

93.   Baltimore’s outgoing Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake announced that Lexington Market would be demolished and rebuilt. A park will replace the existing building and the new Lexington Mark will be built a block or 2 down from the existing building. And it will only be 2/3 the size of the original building. 96.     6 elementary school students were killed in Chattanooga, TN when their school bus driver lost control of the vehicle, hit a tree and flipped on its side. Parents told authorities that they had complained to the school on previous occasions because they felt the bus driver drove too fast when he children on the bus. 100.   The UK’s fertility regulator has approved an in vitro treatment that would allow babies to be made from 2 women and 1 man….thus having 3 parents. Supposedly this technology is to be used to prevent babies from being born with fatal genetic diseases. The 1st child born using this method could be born in 2017. SMH. This is DISTURBING to me.
